This my friend, is known as a red line wheel. It denotes a Hot Wheels car made before 1978. My favorite type of Hot Wheels car. The thought that a kid was playing with these cars before I was born, and then the car managed to somehow make it to me is the best part of collecting them. I have a few, but not nearly as much as I want. Sorry wifey HA!
Just a few
I also like collecting Hot Wheels in their original packaging. As close to mint as I can get. Why? Why do anything?
I prefer the cars that are models of real cars, I tend to stay away from artists conceptions and concept cars. I like muscle cars and Japanese sports cars. Reasons? Anyone who collects knows that Hot Wheels have probably 10 million different muscle car models, and about 30 Japanese. So much more rare. Although the artist conception are cool in a weird way, I love looking at the cars and picturing myself driving them. I don't think I would drive a car that looked like a scorpion.
The in package cars are about 1-2 dollars new, and about 2-5 dollars used mostly. So you won't go broke buying them or get rich selling them. Its just for the love of it.
She was my first. An 1981 Delorean
Perhaps I should talk about how I started collecting. The whole thing started with this guy. An 81 Delorean.
My first Hot Wheels. I was shopping at Walmart with Aj, and I was in the habit of buying him hot Wheels cars. Mostly because they are so cheap. Other parents know what I mean. AJ sees the toys and begs, so I would take him to the Hot Wheels cars section and tell him he could have any one he wants. I know, I am a real Scrooge Mc Duck. Then I saw this.
I love everything about Deloreans. The American push to succeed, and the failing. Mostly I love the rarity . So I bought it, and thought it would be a good idea to keep it in it's package. Soon after every time I bought AJ a HotWheels, I would buy one for myself. Then two for me one for him. Then 3 for 1. I actually hate buying them for him now, as I hate the idea of him opening them and playing with them.
Anyway, I started this website as a place holder for racioppa.ca , but have since felt inspired to do more. Show off my collection, list upcoming events, maybe a little swap shop? who knows where we will go from here. I have paid for the year, so I have no idea what will happen. Maybe I will lose interest it, but wifey thought I would lose interest in the Hot Wheels too!
